On October 3, 2008, President Bush signed federal mental health parity/addiction equity legislation as part of the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. The new law requires that health plans apply the same treatment (visit) and financial (cost-sharing) limits to mental health and substance abuse benefits as it does to medical and surgical benefits.
