It’s called a Flask – usually holding whiskey or bourbon which cowboys drank on a daily basis. I think they drank so much because it warded off insects that would infect the horses such as flies, bee’s and others when they traveled. They drank so much, the odor came out of their skin. It was also a barter situation – exchange booze for items such as sugar, flour, etc. The Flask is made of heavy aluminum, I think. Best to check sources, but that’s my thinking.
