What is text art / textual art?
A. I consider text art to be the use of text to express ideas with an artistic goal in mind. This definition is purposefully broad. Some instances emphasize text as a component within graphic designs. Others are more colorful. Under an extremely liberal interpretation, poetry, short stories, and even novels would qualify as text art. However, I consider poetry and prose distinct from what I and others do. These text art strings are usually short, typically one sentence, though sometimes they are longer. It’s worth noting that while this “Holzer-style” of text art derives much of its value directly from invoking certain thoughts and ideas, it is potentially complimented by how the work is displayed. For example, both medium and location could enhance the overall presentation.
