What is Tesco doing to reduce their carbon footprint?

0

A. We use the carbon footprinting process not only to help customers, but also to assist us in working with our suppliers to reduce our own carbon footprint. Carbon footprinting of products helps us identify the opportunities to reduce both emissions and costs. We are continually looking at our transport, logistics, and refrigeration practices and technology to reduce the emissions directly within the control of Tesco. In 2007, we set ambitious targets to reduce emissions in our own buildings and distribution networks. We will: • halve emissions from existing buildings by 2020, against a baseline of 2006. • halve emissions from new stores by 2020, compared with an equivalent store built in 2006. • halve distribution emissions of each case of goods delivered by 2012, against a baseline of 2006. We are working to achieve these targets via a number of initiatives – find out about them here.
