What is temporary housing?
Floor lounges in the Residence Halls are converted to temporary student rooms and are set up to accommodate 3-5 students. These lounges were student rooms at one time and are easily converted back to a room. Students assigned to temporary housing receive a 50% reduced room rate while they are living in a floor lounge. These lounge/temp rooms are equipped with the same furnishings provided in regular student rooms and have locks on the entry door. We provide one of the following to each student in the lounge: Bed, Desk, Chair, and Closet. We provide one of the following in each temporary room: Internet connection and Phone jack. Our first priority is to find permanent housing assignments for students initially placed in temporary housing. Census is taken on the first day of classes (Monday, August 25, 2008). For detailed information about Temporary Housing see the Temporary Housing Guide.
If you are an asylum-seeker and you are in need of accommodation until you are dispersed, you can access temporary housing, called ‘initial accommodation’ (with meals provided). If you have refugee status or leave to remain and you approach the council for a permanent council or housing association home and the council is required to house you because you are homeless, you will be offered somewhere temporary to stay. Only those people who really need it are offered temporary accommodation. Temporary accommodation could be in a reception centre, a hostel, or accommodation managed by a hotel group. Depending on your circumstances and what is available, you may be provided with temporary accommodation outside Islington or outside London. Later you may be offered an as

Temporary Housing at The University of Iowa If you haven’t received a housing assignment yet, it is possible that you will be placed in temporary housing. The quotes are taken from actual students who have lived in temporary housing. “Temporary housing was one of my best experiences at Iowa.” Temporary housing is created by converting locked floor study lounges to student living areas. We DO NOT use lobbies or hallways for temporary housing. Eight or fewer students are assigned to each lounge. The basic amenities of residence hall rooms are included in temporary housing. Each student will have a bed, but because of space restrictions, students will share desks, dresser space and hanging space for clothes. There is one telephone jack and we provide a telephone. As in all residence hall rooms, local service is provided. Each space has wireless internet service available for
