What is tempered glass, is it safe?
Glass for shower enclosures is tempered after it is cut to size. The tempering process involves heating the sheet of glass to a high temperature, before cooling it at a controlled rate. This process causes the skin of the glass to shrink slightly. When the glass is broken, the stretched out skin contracts, ripping the sheet of glass into very small pieces. Tempered glass is more safe than other types of glass because it does not break into shards. Additionally, tempered glass is about four times as hard to break as plate glass.
