• TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESL – Teaching English as a Second Language are very similar. The only difference is the next to last word (Foreign or Second), determined by whether English is the native language where the course is being taught. • Foreign is used to refer to teaching English in a country/area where English is not the native language. • Second is used to refer to teaching English in a country/area where English is the native language.
