WHAT IS TEAM PENNING?
Team penning is a horse event that uses three riders to pen three cattle. There are 30 head of cattle numbered zero through nine. Three cattle have the same number. The riders are required to pen one number, while not allowing any other cattle to get into the pen. Two judges, a line judge and a pen judge, enforce the rules. Only three cattle may cross the line. If more than three cross the line, the team is disqualified. Each team consists of a swing, a wing and a rider in the hole. They have to sort through the cattle and find the right number. Teams can pen one, two or three cattle. Ideally, they should pen all three. The teams are timed and the lower the time the higher rating each team gets. All the scores are tallied and the winner is the one with the highest total score. Each team member is ranked and team members are chosen based on that. Different categories are in place for different ranks of riders. The U.S. Team Penning Association tries to include all riders, no matter what
