What is teacher certification? Does this mean that students receive certificates instead of degrees?
We will continue to prepare students for teacher certification, the process by which the state of Georgia certifies that they are eligible to be teachers. Any student interested in early childhood teacher preparation and completes the undergraduate teacher preparation program will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree with her major (Child Development) specified on her diploma, just as it was in the past. Those students who are preparing for certification in Secondary Education/P-12 Education will receive their degree with the disciplinary major specified (i.e. History, English, Mathematics, Music), as has been the case in the past. The Georgia Professional Standards Commission determines certification eligibility and issues the certification document.
