What is System of Systems Engineering?
The developers of advanced systems face an emerging challenge of how to address the integration of multiple complex systems.There are numerous systems in existence that alone can be considered complex systems.However, these systems cannot be viewed as operating in isolation.On the contrary, future demands will require that these systems be engineered to function as an integrated “systems of systems”. By “system of systems engineering” we mean: The design, deployment, operation, and transformation of metasystems that must function as an integrated complex system to produce desirable results. These metasystems are themselves comprised of multiple autonomous embedded complex systems that can be diverse in technology, context, operation, geography, and conceptual frame.
