Synchronization is the term that describes the way in which Westar music tracks can be utilized in productions that you create. A sound can be synchronized with a visual presentation (the sound of a dramatic film score timed to be heard as movie credits roll), or with other audio material such as a voice over – as in the case of a radio commercial. A music track can be synchronized for use in many media: television, radio, film, multimedia and audio-visual presentations, Web sites, computer games and music. A Westar Music lease includes the synchronization rights required to allow you to use the music in your productions. The rights to re-sell, re-publish or otherwise distribute Westar Music are not obtained with your acquisition of synchronization rights to our products. When you use our music tracks, they must be synchronized within a multimedia presentation, film, Web site, game, audio-visual production or broadcast.

Synchronization occurs when a mobile device communicates with applications on a personal computer or a server. This is often referred to simply as a “sync” or a “docking”. Research in Motion BlackBerry technicians call it “cradling” when it applies to BlackBerry devices. Note: If you use Outlook or handheld synchronization software and connect to Indiana University via an outside Internet service provider (ISP), you must establish a VPN connection before connecting to your Exchange mailbox. See At IU, using an outside ISP, why can’t I connect to my Exchange account with Outlook or BlackBerry Desktop Manager? Mobile devices must have some way of loading applications, updates, and changes to their operating systems or settings. Even devices capable of wireless networking must have some way of loading software, if only to load what is needed to create the wireless connection in the first place.

Synchronization is the process of sending in completed work and simultaneously retrieving teacher comments and grades. It takes only a few moments to do and needs to be done before and after each work session. If using remote access, you don’t need to synchronize.
