Symmetric DSL refers to DSL technologies that provide the same bandwidth upstream and downstream. E.g. HDSL (High Bit Rate DSL), IDSL (ISDN DSL). Asymmetric DSL is referred to as DSL technology that provide higher downstream bandwidth while lower upstream bandwidth. E.g. ADSL.
