What is Symbicort® ?

Symbicort Turbohaler is used to treat asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). How does Symbicort® work? The reason for putting the two medicines together in one single inhaler is that they work on different aspects of lung diseases. · Budesonide (see Pulmicort) is a type of medicine called a steroid (of the glucocorticosteroid type), which treats the inflammation. · Inflammation is the long-lasting (chronic), underlying part of asthma and COPD. · When left untreated, inflammation can worsen. The lungs can become more inflamed and asthma or COPD symptoms and frequency of attacks can increase. · Formoterol (see Oxis) is a fast-working and long-acting bronchodilator.
