What is Superbit?
A. Video and audio are stored on a DVD using compression algorithims that discard some of the information in the original movie. These compression algorithms are very carefully defined to discard information that is impreceptable to most people. The algorithms can be tuned to trade quality for space. Better compression/smaller files can be created at a slight cost in quality or vice versa. However most DVD movies don’t fill the available space on a dual-layer DVD, so extra features are added (trailers, previews of other movies, “The making of…” videos, director’s comments, etc.) The Superbit technology eliminates some of these extra features and simply uses the extra space on the DVD to produce higher quality video and audio. True videophiles can detect the difference. The only impact Superbit has on DVD X Copy is the files containing the movie tend to be larger than normal and it is less likely that a Superbit movie will fit on a single recordable disk. It will, however, be split just
