What is Sun xVM Server?
Sun xVM Server is an enterprise-class, open-source hypervisor that enables businesses to securely and reliably enable, monitor, and manage multiple environments and services on one physical environment running Microsoft Windows, Linux, or Solaris operating systems. Sun’s latest server virtualization offering for the enterprise virtualization market, xVM Server will initially run on selected Sun x64 hardware and provide the ability to have the Solaris OS and Microsoft Windows guest OSs via a hardware virtual machine (HVM). It will be available as an appliance, an implementation that provides tight integration of an x64 hypervisor with management provided via a browser user interface (BUI). The x64 hypervisor control domain will leverage key OpenSolaris features including ZFS, Fault Management Architecture, and Dynamic Tracing (Dtrace).
