What is Summa doing?
Summa Health System has always had a disaster preparedness plan in place and education on bioterrorism has been ongoing at Summa Health System for years. For more than 30 years, The Joint Commission has required its accredited health care organizations, of which Summa is one, to meet established disaster preparedness standards. Summa annually participates in disaster preparedness drills, which evaluate the communication, coordination and attention to chain of command structures developed by the health care organizations and the community. Specific to anthrax, Summa physicians are familiar with the disease and are very capable of recognizing the signs and symptoms of the disease and providing the appropriate treatment. Summa Health System continues to work closely with the Akron Health Department, the Summit County Health Department and many other local health agencies and should a case of anthrax be suspected, Summa would contact the appropriate local government agencies and the emerge
