Sulphasalazine is a Sulphur antibiotic used to treat Crohn’s and Colitis. These drugs are mainly used for reducing the chance of a flare up of Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s. Sulphasalazine is not broken down by the body and is also not absorbed into the blood by the upper gut. Bacteria in the large intestine break it down releasing 5-ASA from the large Bowel helping reduce symptoms.
