The lines are a little blurry, and it is actually a term which means different things to different people. Officially subliminal hypnosis is where you enter a mini trance state without meaning to i.e. you enter it subliminally. This might sound strange to you, however in regular life we are continously go in and out of these mini trance like states all day long – when reading, writing, exercising riding the bus etc. A common example is watching television.
