A mentor provides them with support to address any barriers to learning their difficulties may cause. The mentor is there to help bridge the academic and pastoral support roles already at the academic establishment, with the aim of ensuring that individual students engage more effectively in learning and achieve appropriately. Having this additional support may help individuals overcome social, emotional and behavioural problems. They also work with pupils experiencing organisational difficulties or needing support with study skills, planning and revision and sometimes life skills.
