What is Student Mentoring? How do I get Involved?
Students benefit from interacting with faculty outside of the classroom. One of the best ways to accomplish this is by working on projects with faculty. The university, college, and department make funds available to hire student assistants. Some examples of current mentoring projects in our department include: • Designing landscapes on campus and in the surrounding community • Working in the Department Greenhouse and Terraced Hillside Gardens • Working with volunteers in Rock Canyon • Building the BYU Tree Tour Website • Conducting laboratory research with department faculty • Working in the Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory • Being a Teaching Assistant for a class Mentoring opportunities tend to fill up fast. Sometimes the best way to “get your foot in the door” is to volunteer to help.
