The practice squad is essentially made up of players that football teams neither want to release or pay the high salary a regular player would demand. For instance, the Packers kept only two quarterbacks, starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Matt Flynn, on the 53-man roster. So unless they make a move in the coming days to add another, Brian Brohm in essence will open the season in the same No. 3 quarterback role he had for all 16 games as a rookie last season.
