NET8 (called SQL*NET prior to Oracle8) is the software that allows remote data-access between a user application and Oracle databases, or among multiple databases. SQL*Net supports distributed processing and distributed database capability. SQL*Net is an “open system” because it is independent of the communications protocol, and users can interface SQL*Net to many network environments.
