What is Sport, Kinesiology, Health Sciences?
Kinesiology is the bio-scientific and socio-cultural study of human movement. Departments offering this major may offer several different types of programs that focus on core studies related to exercise, movement and fitness; social, cultural, and psychological aspects of physical activity; formal and informal sports programs; human growth, development; and development of the human body form throughout one’s life; therapies to deal with physical injury; and the teaching/coaching of physical activity and sport. One direction these programs can move in is toward physical education and the teaching of health in the public schools. Students combine their sports and health studies with a degree in education to become certified teachers and coaches.
