What is Spinal Menengitis?
Spinal Meningitis is an infection that causes inflammation of the membranes covering the spinal cord and brain. Viral infections are the most common cause of Spinal Meningitis and is usually resolved without treatment. Bacterial infections are very dangerous and can result in death or brain damage even if it’s treated. Meningitis can also be caused by tumors, drug allergies, fungi and chemical irritation. Symptoms are: fever and chills, nausea and vomiting, stiff neck, severe headache, sensitivity to light, mental status change, rapid breathing, agitation, decreased consciousness, bulging soft spots in infants, and irritability or poor feeding in children. Nothing is prescribed for Viral Meningitis but antibiotics are prescribed for Bacterial Meningitis.
