What is speed metal?
Speed metal is a genre of metal in which the guitar riffs are played extremely fast. This is often accompanied by a relatively slow, steady bass line and drums, who generally play very fast, with the occasional solo. The vocal style can range greatly, from screams and grunts (more typical of death and black metal) to epic, harmonicly layered sounds similar to that of Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and Demons & Wizards. A good example of speed metal is the song “The Glory of Rome” by Avantasia on their album “The Metal Opera Pt. I”.
