What is special about an annular solar eclipse?

0

Any kind of eclipse is special in my opinion, but there is a difference between a total solar eclipse and an annular solar eclipse. ANNULAR: the moon is not at perigee (closest to the earth). This means that the moon is NOT as big as it possible could be, and it will not cover the whole surface of the sun, therefore you will see the sun shining around the moon, like a glowing ring. TOTAL: The Moon is at Perigee, and will cover the whole surface of the sun during the eclipse. (completely blocking out the sun). it all comes down to perigee (moon is close to the earth and looks bigger), apogee( moon is farthest away from earth and will not cover the sun during an eclipse. and most importantly you MUST be close to the umbra inside the penumbra to see these things happen.
