What is SPC Technology?

SPC (“Surface Preparation Compound”) Technology works by penetrating and then softening the antifouling (AF) to be removed allowing it to be easily removed from the hull (substrate). Developed by Sea to Sky Innovations in Canada, the SPC products are water-based and designed for removal of AF, paint, oil, rust and grease. They are non-toxic, non-flammable and biodegradable making them safe to use. For removal of AF from timber and fibreglass vessels, use SPC202. SPC 202 will have no damaging effects on the gel coat (in some cases the gel coat may temporarily soften but will return to its original hardness). For steel vessels use SPC203. For aluminium vessels use either SPC 202 or SPC 20. Prior to AF removal it is advisable to apply a small test patch of product to the AF visible both above and below the water line.
