What is Spam email?
According to Coalition Against Unsolicited Commercial Email (CAUCE), most commonly seen unsolicited commercial emails (UCEs) are: • Chain letters • Pyramid schemes (including Multilevel Marketing, or MLM) • Other “Get Rich Quick” or “Make Money Fast” (MMF) schemes • Offers of phone sex lines and ads for pornographic web sites • Offers of software for collecting email addresses and sending UCE • Offers of bulk emailing services for sending UCE • Stock offerings for unknown start-up corporations • Quack health products and remedies • Illegally pirated softwa
Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses.
