What is some belly dance music?
The music your belly dance teacher played may depend on the style of belly dance she taught you (and of course her personal preferences). Some teachers performing tribal fusion style music will use techno and other “mainstream” American music that is not necessarily Middle Eastern. You might check out the Belly Dance Superstars and their CDs. If your teacher taught you Vintage Oriental, Egyptian, Turkish, Lebanese, or Cabaret styles, you would be interested in artists such as Hossam Ramzy Emad Sayyah George Abdo Eddie “The Sheik” Kochak Amr Diab Don’t panic if you don’t know the style you were learning. There are lots of artists out there, so if you have access to your local library or internet music providers (emusic, iTunes, maqam.com, etc.), you can look for CDs by these artists or search for “belly dance” to find others and get a better grasp for the music that particularly moves you!
