What is Solar Heat Gain Coefficient and why is it important?
The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient, or SHGC, is the amount of solar radiation that comes through a window. SHGC is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The lower a window’s solar heat gain coefficient, the less solar heat it transmits. It is important in choosing a replacement window because the lower the SHGC, the less cooling energy is wasted out the window and the less you have to spend to cool or air condition your home.
