What is “Software Piracy?
Software piracy is the unauthorized use or distribution of software. You participate in the unauthorized use or distribution of TopScore Pro if you LEND, GIVE, COPY or SELL the software to anyone without our permission. You do not OWN the software. You are granted a nonexclusive right to USE the software for a specific period of time. ScholarWare takes software piracy very seriously. Because our product is beneficial to its users only once (unlike other programs such as Microsoft Word), we especially depend upon recurring revenue to make advances in our product. Just because you do not “need” the software anymore, DOES NOT entitle you to pirate the software. Why shouldn’t I use pirated or pirate software? Who am I hurting? Software piracy is the unauthorized duplication of computer software. Although most computer users today are aware that unauthorized use and duplication of software is illegal, many show a general disregard for the importance of treating software as valuable intellectual property. According to the BSA (Business Software Alliance) and IDC 5th Annual Global Software Piracy Study, revenue losses due to software piracy have increased and were nearly $48 billion in the year 2007.

Unlike other things you purchase, the software applications and fonts you buy don’t belong to you. Instead, you become a licensed user you purchase the right to use the software on a single computer, but you can’t put copies on other machines or pass that software along to colleagues. Software piracy is the illegal distribution and/or reproduction of Adobe software applications or fonts for business or personal use. Whether software piracy is deliberate or not, it is still illegal and punishable by law. Piracy comes in many forms.
