What is Social Infrastructure?
Social infrastructure includes a wide range of built facilities, services and networks of organisations. These include: Community facilities like schools, hospitals, police/fire/ambulance stations, child-care centres, youth facilities, cultural facilities like libraries and theatres, recreation and sporting facilities*, facilities for older people including accommodation, public transport, pedestrian/walking trails and bikeways, and social (non-private) housing. Community services like health services, children’s and family services, aged care services, disability services, multicultural services, youth development, welfare and support services, housing services, and employment and training services Community services networks like interagency groups. Work in this area will draw on the findings of previous local government open space and recreation studies.
