What is so important about the PIE Model?
On the basic level – we have used the PIE model to organize the text. Each major section of chapters is devoted to explaining what transpires within that section of the model. Therefore, the five chapters (4-8) that are within the planning section specifically deal with what one does as the learning experience is planned. Of more importance, the PIE model helps to structure how one goes about creating instructional materials. It guides the questions that should be asked, the procedures that could be followed, and helps to make sure that nothing is left to chance. Through the design and development of these enhanced learning experiences you will come to see how, when, and why specific technology can assist in the development, delivery, and assessment of the learning experience – this model helps to ensure that design and development occurs in an effective and efficient manner.
