What is so controversial about the Hunt Club of Brevard?”
The Hunt Club of Brevard County is a “swingers” club–“a private group dedicated to helping others explore “alternative lifestyles,” according to their website. It’s even more controversial as it it located in a residential community and collects donations to operate. Melbourne city authorities decided any private group which promotes its activities and collects “donations” qualifies as a commercial business and sent a “cease and desist” letter to the club’s operators, Kirsi Page and Richard Spalding. But they say they are not a business and that the donations are merely to cover party expenses. They also admit to not paying any taxes on those donations, stating that they are to cover the expenses, not income. Local residents are concerned about this in their neighborhood, and local administrators are concerned about legalities and zoning.
