What is so bad about burning candles that are sold at large retailers?
Most cheap candles marketed to consumers are made with paraffin wax; which is a refined petroleum by-product. You may have noticed that burning a paraffin candle may leave the surrounding furnishings and walls covered in a black residue. According to the EPA, paraffin wax is harmful when burned, as bad as second-hand smoke! Paraffin wax contains 11 toxins, two that are considered above the excess cancer risk with multiple exposures. Soy wax is 100% natural and has no harmful carcinogens plus burns with almost no soot. If the candle does not state that it is made with 100% soy wax then it is probably a mixture of soy and paraffin. Make sure you know what you are purchasing!
