What is Slash and Burn?
Slash and burn is an agricultural technique in which forested land is cleared to make way for farmland for raising crops or pasture for livestock. Trees are cut down and the rest is burned in a (hopefully) controlled fire. The remaining soil is then fertilized with the remains of the fire and clear for usage. While it is unfortunate that trees must be cut down in this effort, the slash and burn technique is actually an ancient practice that most believe has existed since the Neolithic Revolution in 10,000 BC. Do not do this at home!
