What is sine wave?
A sine wave is one type of waveform representing how alternating current (AC) varies with time, its most familiar one. In this case the current or voltage varies with the sine of the elapsed time, hence its name sine wave. Other AC waveforms are the trapezoidal, the saw tooth, the square, the ramp and the triangular. The sine wave is unique in that it represents energy entirely concentrated at a single frequency. Household utility current has a sine waveform with a frequency 50 Hz in most European countries and 60 Hz in most countries (including the United States).
