What is Simple Living, Voluntary Simplicity and Sustainable Living?
Simple Living is defined differently from person to person. The Amish lifestyle is probably the most easily recognizable example, but it is not the only one. While the Amish may shun technology and the urban life, that does not mean that a resident of New York City or a computer user (like you and me!) has to give those things up. To me, simple living means doing without those things that complicate and consume our lives in ways we don’t want, thus limiting us from living our potential. It is embracing those things that make our lives better, richer, and in the case of technology, save us time that can be spent pursuing the activities and relationships what we enjoy. The simple life does involve living without the things that clutter our lives, and consuming less. By consuming less, we save money and don’t add to the pile of clutter we are trying to get out from under. Anti-consumerism is vitally important to living a simpler life.
