What is SIECUS, and why did their opinion matter?
It is the organization from which the National Education Association’s sex education program is driven. SIECUS was founded by people from the Alfred Kinsey Institute. Kinsey and his trainees were known for outrageously obtained “studies” on early childhood sexuality. SIECUS believes every child has the right to manage their own sexual behavior. The newer curriculum experiment brings a different attitude from the organization. In a Feb. 2010 Washington Post article, a new representative for SIECUS says the latest findings about abstinence training could be an added tool to their repertoire of sex education. Jimmy Hester of the “True Love Waits” abstinence-based movement from Lifeway Christian Resources told the Baptist Press that saying to teenagers ‘Abstinence is good but we know you are going to have sex’ compromises the abstinence message from the start.
