The masthead of this web site consists of a photo looking south from Garita Peak, on the north rim of the Valles Caldera, at 10,000 feet. In this photo you can see the across the entire Caldera. Visible (from left to right) is the ring fracture dome of Cerro Abrigo; Rabbit Mountain (which is part of the south rim of the Caldera); Valle Grande; Sandia Peak (which towers over Albuquerque – the mountain is barely visible off in the distance); the ring fracture domes of Cerros de Trasquilar and Cerro Santa Rosa; the resurgent domes of Redondito Peak and Redondo Peak (at 11,254 feet the largest mountain in the Caldera); and the volcanic ring fracture dome of Cerro San Luis. The valley that can be seen in the foreground (left to right) is Valle San Antonio, and the perpendicular valley heading toward Redondo Peak is Valle Santa Rosa.
