What is Shell’s view of the future energy mix?
As an energy company, Shell’s success depends on providing the energy solutions that society demands now and in the future. Consumers are gradually moving away from conventional fossil fuels, such as coal, to those containing less carbon, such as gas. We expect this trend to continue as fossil fuels become less available and are gradually replaced by hydrogen and sources of renewable energy. Shell takes this issue seriously and has been evaluating renewable energy sources for twenty years. We have businesses developing renewables including wind power and solar photovoltaics. We also have investments in biofuels. In 1999 Shell Hydrogen was established as a global business to develop business opportunities in hydrogen and fuel cells.
