What Is Sheepshead?
The Sheepshead is a well known type of a marine fish that can grow up to 30 inches. However they are more commonly found from 5 to 8 inches. The body of the sheepshead fish is deep and compressed; the body also has around 5 to 6 dark bars on the side of its body, these bars are over a gray background. The sheepshead fish is mainly found in the muddy and shallow waters, commonly over oyster beds or around the piers or rock jetties. They mainly range up and down, between the Western Atlantic seaboards. The sheepshead is also commonly found in the Gulf of Mexico. They are not present in the Caribbean. The flesh of the Sheepshead is said to have very good taste and excellent consistency.
