What is Shawnee’s Current Solid Waste and Recycling Policy?
Trash service is through a multi-hauler system. This means that each resident can choose the trash hauler of their choice so long as the hauler is licensed in the city. The recycling service is contracted through Deffenbaugh and costs $1.70/month. At the end of 2008, Deffenbaugh indicated that they needed to renegotiate the recycling contract with the city. Currently Shawnee requires all citizens to pay for recycling unless they fall into one of three exempted categories and have established this exemption.
