What is SEDRAs definition of a rookie?
For both horse and rider, the “Rookie Season” is the season in which the first ride is completed, regardless whether one ride or several rides are done in that season. You, as a rider, may also be a rookie in a year other than your rookie season on individual rides where you ride and complete a specific mileage for the first time, regardless if it is Competitive Trail Riding, Driving or Endurance. The same goes for the horse, for individual ride “rookie horse” awards. This will apply when completing 25 miles, then moving up to higher mileage, (i.e.) 27, 35, 40 or higher. If you complete a higher mileage event as a rookie, you cannot compete as a rookie at a lower distance.
