What is Sculpey Clay?
Sculpey is a material used to make jewelry, sculptures and ornaments. While it is typically thought of as clay, it is actually made of a form of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, and contains no natural clay at all. Sculpey is pliable without the need of water, and when baked in the oven is hard enough to be sanded, drilled or painted to finish its design. The product cleans up easily, and is baked at a low temperature in the oven at home; no special equipment is required to form rock solid beads, sculptures or ornaments. Sculpey is available in multiple forms. Super Sculpey is a non colored polymer clay, which bakes to a light peach color, and is meant to be painted after baking. Other forms of Sculpey come in a wide variety of colors, some iridescent, some neon, and some which glow in the dark.
