What is screen printing and is it the same as silk screen printing?
Screen printing is the process of applying ink to a substrate, whether it be a garment, plastic, or metal, etc. The process is called “screen” printing because the ink is pushed through a extremely fine mesh screen. In the old days it was called “silk screen” because silk was used to create the mesh or screen. Now a days we can create the screens cheaper and stronger using specialized intertwined fabric. The process has remained the same for many century’s and will probably remain the same for years to come. Even though new processes promise to eliminate screen printing, they are still years behind the quality that can be produced with screen printing, not to mention the durability.
