Hollywood’s Jane Russell on stage Screen legend Jane Russell is joining the cast of a musical in Cardiff about theatre producer David Gest. The actress, now 88, shot to fame in 1946 in the movie The Outlaw, which had been considered too raunchy for audiences to watch three years earlier. Her other notable films included Gentlemen Prefer Blondes with Marilyn Monroe. David Gest… My Life! A Musical Concert Extravaganza is touring the UK and is at St David’s Hall on Saturday. The musical tells the story of theatre producer Gest, the ex-husband of actress Liza Minnelli, through his love of music. The show also also includes a tribute to Michael Jackson, and an interview between Gest and Jackson will be shown. The actress, once a voluptuous brunette whose Hollywood credits include The Outlaw – a film which caused a public outcry in 1943 thanks to her shapely figure – revelled in the spotlight last night. The legendary actress, now 88, paid little notice to her age as she sang three jazz standards in a glitzy showpiece dinner held in The Well of the Cathedral.
