What is Sciatic Neuritis?
Sciatic neuritis occurs when the sciatic nerve – the nerve that extends from the lower spine to the feet – becomes inflamed or irritated. In a healthy individual, this nerve facilitates the transfer of signals between the brain and the lower extremities, but when this nerve is interfered with, a number of symptoms can present both at the site of the compression and along the nerve, which travels from the lower back, through both sides of the pelvis, and down each leg to the feet.
