What is SCANSM?
SCANSM, the Shared Check Authorization Network, is a database of information that SCANSM Members use to help make check acceptance decisions or account opening decisions. This information helps retailers and other subscribers reduce their returned check losses and improve customer service. SCANSM can describe any negative check information that has been reported to the SCANSM database for your bank accounts and identification numbers. Note: SCANSM does not make the decision to decline your check and does not know the specific reason for an individual SCANSM Member’s decision.
