What is SAWS asking Council to do?
SAWS is asking Council to revise the Edwards Aquifer levels that trigger drought restrictions for Stages 1-3 (see chart). The new aquifer triggers would be 10 feet higher than those currently in place. SAWS is also recommending a change in variance policies to Stage 1 rules allowing low water use planting for new construction. This would help reduce impact on the landscaping and building industries. How will restrictions affect me? The basic restrictions for each Stage would remain the same, but begin earlier. The restriction most people are familiar with is the requirement to water with a sprinkler no more than one day a week.
